Lagom Healthy Lifestyle Mentors are health professionals that have a deep understanding of what a Lagom Healthy Lifestyle is and what it takes for clients to become their own positive health promoters.

Drawing extensively from the unique Lagom Mentoring Process and the Science of Behavior Change, Lagom Mentors partner up with their clients to support and empower each client to take charge of their individual journey to their desired, more balanced healthy lifestyle.

Lagom Mentors are guided by values and attitudes that prioritize the respect, freedom, and worth of every human being, and they are equipped with a set of professional skills and specific tools to best support their clients.

In this mentor-mentee-partnership, the Mentors are important role models because they have already experienced their own trials and tribulations in achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, they are highly prepared to understand, accept, and empathize with the range of challenges that their clients may bring.

WHAT DOES OUR MENTOR COURSE OFFER?

After you have successfully participated in our Lagom Mentor course, you become accredited as a Certified Lagom Healthy Lifestyle Mentor. For it, our certificate course offers you deep insights into the tasks and roles of a healthy lifestyle mentor. It provides a learning deep-dive into what is a holistic view on health and well-being, and how health professionals can help their clients developing a balanced healthy lifestyle with the help of the Science of Behavior Change and the unique Lagom Mentoring Approach.

The Healthy Lifestyle Mentor Course is Lagom’s level 2 course, and it builds on the knowledge of the Lagom Healthy Lifestyle Facilitator Course. Health professionals gather deeper and indispensable knowledge, skills, and tools to accompany their clients through the entire process of change towards a more balanced healthy lifestyle. You should therefore be a Lagom Healthy Lifestyle Facilitator before participating in our mentor course.

COURSE GOALS

Our primary goal is to support you to trigger individual change and to better accompany your clients to start or keep enjoying a healthy lifestyle. For it, the Lagom Mentor Course provides you with a comprehensive, holistic and integrated vision of what we consider to be relevant aspects of a healthy lifestyle. The course gives you a basic understanding of how different aspects of a healthy lifestyle influence each other. It emphasizes the interconnectedness of the body, behaviors, feelings, mindsets, and relationships, and it encourages you to view these as a system. In addition, we introduce you to the Lagom Healthy Lifestyle Mentoring Approach that supports you to facilitate solutions to health-related challenges through behavioral change, by ensuring that this is done in a person-centered and supportive manner.

COURSE PRINCIPLES

We offer a modern, guided but self-paced e-learning approach that serves the needs of health professionals who strive for continuous professional development. You experience a learning journey filled with evidence-based educational content, engaging practice-orientated case studies, and hands-on examples for analysing and supporting your clients. The course intends to spark your curiosity about topics and methods that were not yet adequately addressed in your specialized health or fitness education, and it is always aimed at providing you with learning that is highly applicable for your day-to-day work in practice.

TARGET GROUP

Everyone who is interested in learning something new about a holistic approach to healthy lifestyle is warmly welcome to join our courses. So, there is no formal pre-qualification required to join our mentor course. Yet, it is important to understand that we created our courses for learners who already have a background as a health and fitness professional. It means that we assume that you can build on relevant professional knowledge and that you already have a basic understanding of health-related topics. Yet, in order to become a Certified Lagom Healthy Lifestyle Mentor we require you to be a qualified health professional. In addition, being a Lagom Healthy Lifestyle Facilitator is a pre-condition to become a Lagom Mentor.

COURSE SCOPE

The estimated learning time with our certification course is approximately 80 learning hours.

RECOGNITION

After having successfully finished the course, you receive a printable certificate together wiht a digital learning badge to proof that you are a Certified Lagom Healthy Lifestyle Mentor.

ACCREDITATION

After you have successfully completed our Healthy Lifestyle Facilitator and the Healthy Lifestyle Mentor Certificate Courses you become a Certified Lagom Healthy Lifestyle Mentor. With it, you will be automatically accredited in our Mentors’ Online Register.

Please note that to carry the Lagom Mentor Title it requires that you can certify to us that you are a qualified health or fitness professional under your applicable national policies and/or profession’s regulations. The reason for this accreditation requirement is to support a good quality of services of our healthy lifestyle mentors worldwide.

If you do not hold such proof of a professional certificate, you may still participate in our course, however, you may not become certified and accredited through our systems.

    Module A - Onboarding

    Module A assists you in embarking on your Lagom healthy lifestyle mentor learning journey. It helps you to build a logical bridge between our learning modules and units.

    Module B - Sustainable Behaviour Change

    Module A assists you in embarking on your healthy lifestyle mentor learning journey. It covers the same learning elements as our introduction course. This means that you have already completed the modules of our Healthy Lifestyle Certificate Course, both the learning and costs are fully offset against the certification course.

    Module C - Healthy Lifestyle Mentoring

    Module C helps you to understand general concepts of mentoring and healthy lifestyle mentoring concepts, and it helps you to distinguish mentoring from teaching or coaching approaches. It supports you to conduct thorough needs assessments, to develop supportive relationship, and to provide constructive feedback and encouragement for empowering your clients to take ownership of their balanced healthy lifestyle journey.

    Module D - Physical Activity

    Module D makes you aware of the health risks associated with physical inactivit, and it makes you understand the principles of exercise physiology and injury prevention to ensure both, effective and safe physical activities and training practices. You will know how to assess the fitness level of your clients and classify it from a health-oriented perspective. And you will develop skills to design customized training programs or activity routines based on your client’s goals, abilities and preferences.

    Module E - Stress, Rest and Recovery

    Module E makes you aware of different dimensions and layers of stress, rest and recovery. You will be familiar with the supercompensation model and you understand both its usefulness and its shortcomings. You know diverse negative impacts of prolonged and adverse stress on health and well-being, and comprehend the underlying physiological mechanisms involved.

    Module F - Nutrition

    Module F allows you to understand the foundational principles of nutrition and its significance in promoting overall health and well-being. You understand what macronutrients and micronutrients are, and you understand the impact of dietary patterns on health outcomes, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity. You know about evidence-based strategies for effective weight management, including dietary modifications and behavioral aspects such as physical activity, sleep patterns, physical recovery and stress management.

    Module G - Harmful Substances

    Module G makes you aware of the most relevant substances and their impact on both physical and mental health. You know about evidence-based approaches for assessing substance use and you develop effective communication skills for discussing harmful substance use with your clients. You are aware of potential behavior change and intervention strategies. And you are aware of ethical considerations and professional boundaries in addressing harmful substance use with your clients.

    Module H - Feelings and Emotions

    Module H provides you with a deep understanding of the interaction between the body and brain, and you grasp the difference between feelings and emotions and how each relates to homeostasis. You explore the ability model and you will be able to guide your clients through it. You are able to review the acute stress cascade focused on the emotional context and the harmful effects of prolonged negative emotions on the brain and body.

    Module I - Emotion Regulation and Acceptance

    Module I explains the fundamental concept of emotional regulation, and it explores various strategies to achieve it and its impact on health. It lets you clearly distinguish emotional regulation from emotional control. The module let’s you recognize signs of lack of acceptance of your clients and the impact on their health. You will be equipped with tools and strategies to foster your client’s awareness and self-knowledge and to facilitate the attitudes of acceptance, non-striving and letting go.

    Module J - Mindfulness

    This module clarifies the concepts of attention in general and mindful attention specifically, plus you know the benefits of each one for your client’s health and well-being. You comprehend the attitudes of non-judgment, beginner’s mind, and patience. You learn simple informal practices of mindful moments, and strategies to encourage clients to integrate mindful moments in their daily lives to improve their health.

    Module K - Thinking and Meta-Cognition

    Module K supports you to Comprehend what the concepts of mind, cognition and thinking entail, what are their inherent processes and their connection to health. You will be able to identify your client’s needs, values, beliefs, and thought patterns, and you will understand how they influence your client’s health related perspectives and behaviors. You understand the process of metacognition as a promoter of self-knowledge and a strategy to deal with cognitive dissonance, to foster self-acceptance and change undesirable thinking patterns.

    Module L - Cognitive Self-Regulation

    In our module L you learn about psychological flexibility as a fundamental aspect of health, and cognitive self-regulation as a psychological flexibility enabler. You will be able to support cognitive self-regulation mechanisms that promote adaptability, coping and openness. And you will be able to help your clients to cultivate attitudes such as trust, acceptance and curiosity to grow their psychological flexibility.

    Through module M you understand the concept of mindset and the influence of mental predispositions on the health-related behaviors and well-being of your clients. You k
